Viveport celebrates first anniversary with new services and 100% holiday revenue share
HTC VIVE’s global app store Viveport is celebrating its first birthday by giving developers a host of new services as well as a limited revenue share scheme.
"From launching the first-ever subscription model for a VR app store to exceeding 1,000 titles available globally, to over 26,000 registered developers in our community, Viveport has grown by leaps and bounds over the past year." said Rikard Steiber, President of Viveport.
"We enter year two with exciting new features and improvements to continue our commitment to providing the best VR experience for Viveport customers and the most monetization options for developers."
So, what exactly is on offer for developers?
From October through to the end of 2017, Viveport is suspending its platform fee. This means that developers will be able to keep the entirety of their profits during the 2017 holiday season.
Viveport Arcade Manager
Arcade Manager is HTC Vive’s own content management and distribution platform for developers and operators that want to build out-of-home VR experiences like arcades. It offers developers a consumer-facing front end interface and a host of backend functions like data tracking and secure billing.
The platform has been in trial with over 50 operators, but is now in open beta. Developer revenue share for those using Arcade Manager will also rise from 50% to 70%, in addition to the holiday revenue share.
Viveport Scene SDK
September 21 also saw the release of the new Scene SDK toolset, which aims to help developers create better VR previews of their content that can be shown on Viveport.
Developers can use the tools to create VR previews that are streamed dynamically or ‘VR Skyboxes’ – immersive 360 preview images that users can experience using their headsets.
HTC Vive also announced that it has become a key investor and partner of VRChat, which is now available on Viveport. VRChat allows developers to create shared social spaces with other members of the community.
