Bringing rare animals up close and personal with Virry VR

Seeing the majestic beasts of the African Savannah up close is a dream of many people.

Making sure that the habitat of these beautiful creatures is protected and that the animals themselves are safe from poachers and hunters is also a concern for many.

Fountain Digital Labs is bringing that dream closer with the release of Virry VR.

Released on PlayStation VR, Virry VR takes users on an interactive adventure based on a traditional African safari. Users are able to virtually engage with a range of African animals in a simulation of their natural habitat.

Virry and Fountain Digital Lab CEO Svetlana Dragayeva says that the aim of the project was to “immerse players in the lives of real animals, encouraging discovery, empathy, and problem solving, while helping them better understand nature, conversation, and the world around them.”

‘One of a kind entertainment and educational opportunity’

Filmed in 4K VR at the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy in Kenya, the project combines stunning visuals with interactivity as the user controls the action.

The potential activities range from feeding lions and bathing in mud with rhinos to taking a serene boat trip down an African river.

The fun is balanced with educational facts about the rare and endangered animals and their habitats.

“Seeing a big rhino in its natural home from the perspective of a mud puddle inches away, or having a lion literally lick my face to test if I am edible, were among the coolest things I have done in VR to date,” said Jeremy Bailson, director of the Virtual Human Interaction Lab at Stanford University.

“I predict this project will be a huge success in motivating people to learn more about nature and ecosystems.” in hearing industry leaders discuss subjects like this and sharing their use-cases?
