Get up close and personal with Paul McCartney in Jaunt VR


Cinematic VR company Jaunt has partnered up with Sir Paul McCartney to produce a six-part VR documentary series ahead of the singer’s impending album launch on 10 June.

The somewhat quirky move is presented by Visit Britain and GREAT Britain’s ‘Home of Amazing Moments’ campaign, which aims to promote tourism in the country.

Each episode is themed around a song, from 'Early Days' to the 'Mull of Kintyre' and filmed in McCartney's private home studio. 

Two episodes have been released so far into Jaunt's custom Paul McCartney world within the Jaunt VR App, available on iOS, Android, Gear VR, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive and Desktop 360.

The episodes feature McCartney talking about memories and anecdotes related to various tracks while sharing archived and never before seen footage in VR. 

Award winning director Tony Kaye, producser and sounscape architect Geoff Emerick and executive producers Cliff Plumer, Lucas Wilson and Doug Allenstein worked on building the series with Jaunt. 

in addition to cinematic VR, the series also features digitally remastered and spatially oriented ambisonic audio mixed in Dolby Atmos. 

“We used to see artists connect with their fans through album covers and liner notes but that personal expression, and deeper understanding of the music, has diminished over the years,” said Cliff Plumer, president of Jaunt Studios.

“With virtual reality, Paul McCartney is taking the most innovative step yet; he’s connecting directly with his fans, to share his innermost thoughts and experiences, in an entirely new, personal and immersive way.”
