Audi UK unveils new VR track experience

VR specialist Visualise - whose CEO wrote an exclusive piece for VRTech this week - has unveiled its latest VR experience for Audi UK this week.

Partnering up wtih video production company Vertical Productions, it's produced an Audi Sport experience where users can use the Oculus Rift to take part in a VR race around the INdy Circuit at Brands Hatch.

At the wheel is race driver Oliver Jarvis, who ferries you around the track in either an Audi R8 V10 plus or the Audi RS 6 Performance.

VR 'decisions'

A series of quick-thinking decisions are presented once the race has begun, with alternative outcomes filmed to show if the decision has been right - or wrong. To give users the option to make key driving decisions at different events in the race, Visualise shot alternative outcomes for each decision. To make the decision, users look at the racing move you want to go for, if you choose wrong, or too slowly, you will lose the race.

These outcomes had to start from exactly the right positions, Visualise said, and were all shot in 360 as well as with slow motion cameras, allowing the team to slow the footage right down to a stop at key moments.

Goodwood Festival of Speed

The experience - which includes elements such as rumble bass, motion chairs and binaural audio - will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, the largest motoring garden party in the world. Here, visitors can take part in a virtual race as they wait to test drive Audi quattro cars.

Communications manager Karen Boulton, Audi UK, said: “We were keen to provide an interactive experience in the quattro area while people waited for their test drive, and what better way than to give them a chance to take part in a virtual reality race where they have to make quick decisions just like a professional racing driver?

"We can’t wait to see people’s reactions at the festival.” in hearing industry leaders discuss subjects like this and sharing their use-cases?
