Simian launches app update for iOS 360/VR video support
Another day, another VR issue solved. This time, it’s media sharing platform Simian, which has launched an update to its Simian Now! app to support VR/360 video on iOS.
Over three-quarters of creative companies use iOS devices, but they don’t natively support VR/360 videos, a recent Simian report found. This could only be done previously via apps such as Facebook.
And as VR/360 video have proven to be engaging mediums, the company added, “marketing 360/VR video on iOS is a must”.
The update to Simian’s free iOS app means users will now be able to download and present offline as well as opt to view in stereoscopic for VR headsets.
“When developing our 360/VR video player strategy, one of the biggest challenges the 360/VR marketing teams faced was that making sure videos were on a mobile device,” Brian Attan, Simian co-founder and COO said.
“This of course included Apple, since this is the preferred platform for most creatives and CMOs,” he added.
Simian has its own suite of 360/VR video support which provides private media sharing services for creative agencies, brands and media companies. It’s supported on desktop, Android and now iOS devices.
Using this, companies can annotate based on pinpointing exact co-ordinates, something the company said was not previously possible until the suite was launched in May.
