Ford launches VR storytelling app
It seems cars and virtual reality have found a sweet spot for immersive experiences, as Ford joins the slew of auto brands getting on board with VR.
The VR and 360 content specialist production company is also au fait with creating mobile apps, and worked with Ford on a storytelling-based offering for its fans and customers.
Ford will release different experiences as time goes on, with the first being the GT’s return to the 24 hour Le Mans, 50 years after its original victory. Earlier this year, along with its EcoBoost engine, the brand celebrated a similar victory.
The next story’s set to come out in September and feature Hoonigan Racing’s Ken Block and the Ford Focus RS RX. Anyone with push notifications switched on will get an update when a new piece goes live.
Anyone with a mobile app can use the device; you can opt to use a VR headset but it’s not mandatory.
As is the best part of VR marketing, it will allow people access to places they don’t usually go; the Le Mans track is usually frequented only by a select few from the Ford racing team.
“On top of sharing VR stories about our innovative products, we are also looking to bring mobility issues to the forefront,” said Lisa Schoder, Ford digital marketing manager.
“As we expand our business to be both an auto and mobility company, we are pursuing emerging opportunities through Ford Smart Mobility”
